Works in progress, Dutch studio.

I work in several studios on my canvas, one of my favourites is a warehouse/art studio/gallery in Holland that I’ve painted several of my sold pieces from. Here are a couple that are in progress, I rarely show unfinished paintings but I’m happy to share these before they are completed..

We had talked a lot about greed and it influenced these paintings quite heavily. The lettering is gold bullion coated in blood splatter, as it appears there are no lengths people won’t go to in order to obtain what they believe will make them happy.

I was trying to emulate a collage style but instead of making a specific image I wanted to explore the way old posted bills and adverts may rip and tear off leaving new versions of a finished visual.

I wanted to involve all aspects of graffiti into one painting, so I developed a background with tags, throw ups and crossing out. I then wanted to cast this as the city background and almost frame it with a character in the foreground. Graffiti is in the city and Spider-Man is in the city and perhaps he might want to give it a try..

When creating paintings I have no plan or sketch, I think about what I want to say and just work towards the outcome. I allow the natural energy and flow of the painting dictate how it will look, it’s almost like the painting had to exist I was simply there to facilitate that happening.
